There are mountains you climb with your feet, and others you conquer with your heart. The adventure I shared with Estefanía on Cotopaxi was one of those that leave a mark forever.
Estefanía is an incredible woman from Mexico who lost a leg — but never her will to live, to dream, and to inspire. Her goal: to reach the summit of Cotopaxi, one of Ecuador’s most iconic volcanoes. But this wasn’t just any expedition. It was a climb with a cause, part of a project led by the Range of Motion Project (ROMP), an organization that works tirelessly toward one clear mission: Mobility for All.
ROMP is dedicated to providing access to high-quality prosthetics for people with amputations who cannot afford them. This Cotopaxi expedition wasn’t only about reaching the summit — it was about raising funds, building awareness, and opening paths for those who still cannot walk.
Together with a group of amputee athletes, volunteers, guides, and dreamers, we set out toward the summit with a purpose far greater than ourselves. Listening to Estefanía share her story, seeing her strength, determination, and smile in the midst of effort, was deeply moving. Every step she took carried a powerful message: yes, it’s possible.
Estefanía didn’t just climb a mountain of nearly 6,000 meters. She also climbed against stigmas, against the limitations imposed by society, and in favor of a more inclusive world — one where everyone can have access to the tools they need to live with dignity.
It was a privilege to be part of this experience, to support her journey and the entire team, and to witness how the mountain became a symbol of struggle, hope, and transformation.
Thank you, Estefanía. Thank you, ROMP. And thank you to everyone who believes that a prosthetic can change a life… and that a summit can spark many more hopes.
